Phoenix police say one person was killed in a shooting involving an officer near 35th Avenue and Roosevelt Street overnight. The incident started around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday when patrol officers were flagged down by a convenience store employee who said multiple people outside the store had shoplifted. When the officer tried to make contact with the suspected shoplifters, they split up and ran in separate directions. Police say the officer followed one of the suspects, identified as 27-year-old Christopher Raymond Tavares, who then produced a handgun and started firing at the officer.
