The Actinotocarcinus is an extinct species of Miocene crab.
A distinctive and rare species, little is known about this sweet crab -colloquially nicknamed Spider Crab due to its long spines and spider-like form.
Distinctive in physicality and nature, and fairly uncommon, the Actinotocarcinus genus has very little surrounding research. I am very happy to come across another of this species, which helps with further identification. Most commonly found in the South Island of New Zealand. This particular Actinotocarcinus was found in a Miocene seam of the North Island that I have recently discovered.
