Ethan's Science lesson this week included study where he used graphing tools to document his findings during a speed test. While the outcome of the testing was not really important, the ability of Ethan to use graphs as a scientific tool to visually represent his findings was the goal. He completed this "Graphing Speed Activity" and hopefully learned the lesson well!

Introduction:
This activity will allow you to put your speed to the test and analyze your results.

Purpose:
Calculate and compare your speed when performing the following tasks:
• hopping
• walking backward
• walking at a regular pace
• speed walking (walking as fast as you can without jogging/running)

Hypothesis:
Which task and distance do you think you can you perform the fastest?
I believed the fastest speed will be the speed walking and the slowest will be backward walking.

Materials:
• Timer
• Meter stick or tape measure; or Print a Ruler
• Masking tape, sticky notes, paper, toilet paper, or other material that can be used to indicate distance
• Marker

Procedure:
1. Make a prediction and write your hypothesis.
2. Find a spot in your home and measure off a 10-meter track.
3. Mark the beginning (0 m), middle (5 m), and end (10 m) of your track. We used feet instead of meters because our tape measure was not metric.
4. Perform the following tasks for each distance: hop, walk backward, walk at a regular rate, and speed walk.
5. Record the time, in seconds, it takes to perform each task on the chart below.
6. Calculate the speed by dividing distance by the time. The starting points are filled in for you.
