Traditional music sessions are back live! But we loved combining traditional music sessions with walks around beautiful Wales and so the series continues.

This traditional music session took place in May 2022 at The Crown & Anchor pub in Llanidloes in Mid Wales.

Tunes

1. Barton Island - this wonderful tune was composed by Meg Browning, box player with the acoustic band Never Mind the Bocs from North Wales.
2. Horse's Brawl - traditional tune

Portmeirion

We love the quirky Italianate village of Portmeirion in north-west Wales - it's the unique combination of colourful architecture, sub-tropical gardens and stunning location on the Dwyryd estuary that is so compelling. Portmeirion is near the coastal town of Porthmadog on the southern edge of Snowdonia in North Wales.

Portmeirion village was built between 1925 - 1973 by Welsh architect Clough Williams-Ellis and is perhaps most famous as the backdrop on the cult sixties TV series The Prisoner starring Patrick McGoohan.

During this visit in late May 2022 we climbed up high into The Dome to see an exhibition of Portmeirion's past. Then we wandered from Battery Square through the Piazza with its famous giant chessboard and lake, and down past the Town Hall - stopping off for lunch at the cafe. Finally we explored the Quayside with the intriguing stone boat called Amis Reunis, before continuing past the Observatory Tower and heading deep into Y Gwyllt (Wild) Woodlands on the promontory overlooking the sea.
