In 2009, Warner Brothers commissioned a script based on the DC comics super villain team, the Suicide Squad, the initial script drew heavy inspiration from the John Ostrander run on the comics from the 1980s, featuring characters like Vixen, Captain Boomerang, and the villainous team known as Onslaught. Harley Quinn, Joker, and Enchantress were nowhere to be found.

Though some of the characters and plot ideas are shared between this version of the movie and the 2016 film released by David Ayer, this film featured an entirely different, smaller scale, plot. Though, the movie eventually evolved into the disaster known as Suicide Squad 2016.
