1957 Thunderbird Gas Door "magnetic" latch instead of springs.
My gas door was missing the springs. So naturally I bought new ones. Stuck them on and they immediately bent the tabs they pulled against. To fix that I'd have to weld reinforcements to the tabs. Rather than do that I put a small magnet in the corner of the gas door so it would stick to the metal car body. The gas door is aluminum so a small thin piece of steel needed to be jb welded to the gas door to stick the magnet too. Magnet is not glued on, it just sticks to the metal. Has worked fine for 3 years.
