How to make Sodium hypochlorite bleach from calcium hypochlorite, caustic soda (NaOH) and soda ash ( Na2CO3). The Chemistry of the process involves the :
1. Splitting of calcium hypochlorite into free Chlorine and calcium hydroxide
2. The reaction of the free chlorine from 1 above with sodium hydroxide to yields sodium hypochlorite bleach.
In this reaction Chlorine is reduced to Cl (-1) in NaCl and Cl (+1) in NaOCl. This a type of reaction is called Disproportionation reaction.
