The project preserves natural habitat within suburbia, saving 41 native trees. The exterior is clad in dark Accoya timber, which provides a striking contrast to the surrounding grey-green eucalyptuses. Accoya timber is sustainably sourced from local forests, and recycled timber is used in joinery pieces, embodying the beauty of reusing a natural material.
The home is centered around an open-plan kitchen and living space that opens up to the landscape, maximizing natural light and airflow. The client's brief asked for common spaces to be separated from spaces of solitude, which is achieved through deliberate zoning and thoughtful design.
Minimizing external energy sources was essential for the desired result, and the home is packed with insulation batts and meticulously sealed to achieve high energy efficiency. Limestone cladding and insulated concrete with hydronic heating add to the passive house principles obtained in the living areas.
This sustainable home is a shining example of how to live in harmony with nature, while still enjoying all the comforts of modern living.
