Pirates of the Caribbean is an immersive dark ride located at several Disney parks, including Disneyland, Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Park at Disneyland Paris, and Shanghai Disneyland. This attraction dives into the adventurous tales of pirates in the Caribbean Sea during the 17th and 18th centuries, showcasing their voyages, conflicts, and adventures. The first iteration of this ride was inaugurated at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, in 1967, marking the last project Walt Disney directly influenced before his passing three months before its opening. Due to its success, the attraction was later introduced at Walt Disney World in 1973, followed by Tokyo Disneyland in 1983, Disneyland Paris in 1992, and a revamped version at Shanghai Disneyland in 2016, inspired by the film series it sparked.

This iconic ride also birthed the "Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me)" song, laying the groundwork for the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series that began in 2003. Characters from the film series have been integrated into Disneyland, Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris rides since 2006.

The Disneyland debut of Pirates of the Caribbean on March 18, 1967, was a significant event, as it was the last ride Walt Disney played a role in designing. Initially planned as a wax museum, the concept evolved into a boat ride, influenced by the success of It's a Small World at the 1964 New York World's Fair. The ride, known for its elaborate detail, including intertwined initials of Walt and Roy Disney in its iron railings and a facade that suggests a New Orleans setting, originally included plans for a private Disney family apartment, which later became public spaces for art and museum purposes.

Arrow Development played a crucial role in the creation and replication of the ride, contributing to its design and the development of the ride's boats. The attraction is notable for its extensive use of audio-animatronics, with 53 animatronic animals and birds, and 75 pirates and villagers, requiring a substantial 630,000 gallons of water to operate. The adjacent Blue Bayou Restaurant, opening simultaneously with the ride, is celebrated as one of the first theme restaurants, enhancing the immersive experience.

Despite its absence in the initial offerings of Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World due to geographical considerations, public demand led to the introduction of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Florida in 1973. The ride's expansion continued internationally, with versions opening in Tokyo, Paris, and an innovative rendition in Shanghai, each tailored to offer a unique façade but a similar swashbuckling experience.
