Knuckles shows off his new fire powers in his Paramount+ spinoff series, but this isn't the first time the character has used flames in his attacks.

Knuckles places the iconic red echidna in the spotlight and gives him some incredible new powers—most notably fire powers—that he didn't have in Sonic 2. The Paramount+ series is a spinoff from the Sonic the Hedgehog sequel, which introduced Idris Elba's version of the character. After helping Sonic and Tails stop Dr. Robotnik from taking over the world with the Chaos Emerald, Knuckles attempts to settle into life on Earth. However, Knuckles reveals that this small but powerful alien will always be a fighter.

The official trailer for Knuckles dropped on Paramount Plus's YouTube channel on January 8th, 2024, providing the first look at the titular character's new powers. Though Knuckles was certainly a force to be reckoned with in Sonic 2, as proven by the difficulty Sonic had during their battles, the fire powers he possessed in the trailer are something else entirely. Not only did the trailer reveal that this mighty echidna would continue to grow stronger, but it demonstrated that Knuckles takes some influence from the various Sonic the Hedgehog video games.
