Thursday morning, the May inflation numbers came out. Inflation is tracked via CPI data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This info is publicly available for anyone who wants to view it at BLS.gov/cpi. CPI data consists of price changes to key categories of our life, such as food, housing, transportation, etc. As you have heard from Jerome Powell and the FED, they target 2.0% inflation year over year to promote maximum employment and price stability. Is there a looming inflation crisis?
What the media doesn't show you...Take for example this headline from CNBC that says “Prices jump 5% in May '' but conveniently leaves out that it was 5% over the course of a year. This is done to stir an emotional response and strike fear into you. They will use any numbers, headlines, or data in a way that benefits them the most.
