General Director of the Pittsburgh Opera, Christopher Hahn, spoke with WQED-FM's Anna Singer about the opera's upcoming production of The Passion of Mary Cardwell Dawson on April 27th, 30th, May 3rd and 5th at the Byham Theater. Christopher talks about Mary Cardwell Dawson, the founder of the National Negro Opera Company, who lived in Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood. Ms. Cardwell Dawson provided African Americans in 1940s America the opportunity to perform opera on stages for all audiences around the country. Christopher also highlights his experience in bringing this new opera to Pittsburgh after its premiere at the Glimmerglass Opera Festival, his own time spent with church choirs, and the amazing talent of the Pittsburgh Opera’s Resident Artists. This event and interview are part of WQED's Gospel programming that highlights local concerts in the Western Pennsylvania area.
