It seems lots of you are very interested in this company and want to know more about it.

I also got a number of comments from people saying that Illumina was destined to fail as it got outpaced third generation technology.

In this video I’m going to explain why I think Illumina is much more than just a biotech company and why I think buying Illumina stock is an amazing way to get exposure to the growing genomics industry.

Illumina make the machines that sequence DNA, they also sell the consumables required. At the heart of this is the digitization of biology. Taking our biology, reading it and turning it into data.

This is ground zero of the genomics revolution and its from here that all other genomic related applications are built.


Illumina’s business is booming. They have 70% market share in the sequencing space and out of all the DNA that’s ever been sequenced, their machines have been used to sequence 90% of it.


But Illumina is much more than just a company that make sequencers and sell consumables. They are in fact a Genomics, Venture Capital Fund.

To explain just how successful Illumina are at this I take a look at some of the company’s that Illumina themselves have created and spun off into stand alone entities.

After that I explain Illumina Accelerator and Illumina Ventures, two independent parts of Illumina’s business that were setup specifically to develop and grow new market opportunities for Illumina’s products and to create a return on invested capital.
