New Mercedes GLS AMG Line 2020 Review Interior Exterior.

As the S-Class among SUVs, the new Mercedes-Benz GLS offers more of everything: more space, more comfort, more luxury. The air of supreme confidence emanating from its exterior stems from its impressive dimensions, which have grown slightly in comparison to its predecessor (length +77 mm, width +22 mm). Its general spaciousness, especially in the second seat row, benefits from the 60 mm longer wheelbase. The three rows of seats offer ample space and seating comfort for all passengers. The seats in the third row can be lowered into the floor to increase the boot space (up to 2400 litres), while the seats in the second row fold flat. Furthermore, a six-seater variant with two luxury individual rear seats in the second seat row is available for the first time.

The sporty equipment of the AMG Line (€ 4284) comprises AMG bodystyling (consisting of AMG front apron, wing flares at front and rear, AMG rear apron), 53.3 cm (21-inch) AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels, painted in tantalite grey and featuring a high-sheen finish, and a sports brake system with perforated brake disks at the front and brake calliper covers featuring "Mercedes-Benz" lettering. Interior features are a multifunction sports steering wheel with flattened bottom section, AMG sports pedals in brushed stainless steel with black rubber studs and AMG floor mats in black velour with "AMG" lettering.

With the EXCLUSIVE interior (€ 803.25) the bottom part of the instrument panel and the beltlines come in ARTICO man-made leather. The trim elements, including roller cover for cup holder, are made of wood. The scope of equipment and appointments further includes airbag covers in nappa leather, stainless steel speaker grilles and velour floor mats.

In Europe the GLS comes as standard as a seven-seater with a bench seat in the second seat row and two individual seats at the rear for people of up to 1.94 m (6' 4") in height. Optionally, two luxury individual seats with adjustable armrests can be installed in the middle row at no additional charge. These full-size individual seats offer more space and comfort and easier access through to the third seat row, for example when child seats are fitted in the second row.

Luxury in the new GLS is shared generously among all passengers, All the more so when the Rear Comfort package Plus (€ 2118.20) is ordered. This comprises an extended centre console with cup holders, luxury head restraints with adjustable side bolsters and a luxury armrest for the second seat row. This armrest accommodates the so-called MBUX rear tablet - a 7-inch Android tablet. Integrated in the centre armrest, the removable tablet enables numerous MBUX comfort and entertainment functions to be operated from the rear seat rows.

The GLS is equipped with the latest generation of the infotainment system MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience). Two large 12.3-inch//31.2 cm screens and extended MBUX functions feature as standard. These extended functions include personalisation (profiles) and predictive functions, LINGUATRONIC with natural speech capability (activated via "Hey Mercedes"), WiFi hotspot and internet radio.

The MBUX Innovation package (€ 1439.90) with MBUX Interior Assistant, head-up display and MBUX augmented reality for navigation broadens the scope of operating options. The MBUX Interior Assistant registers the movements of the driver's and front passenger's hands and arms by means of a camera in the overhead control panel. When a hand approaches the touchscreen or the touchpad on the centre console, the presentation of information on the media display alters. Individual elements may be highlighted, for example.

With MBUX augmented reality for navigation, a video image taken by the front camera is augmented with useful navigation information. Indicator arrows or house numbers are automatically superimposed on the image shown on the media display touchscreen, for example.

The GLS is available with the ENERGIZING package (€ 398.65), which links various comfort systems in the vehicle. In general, the ENERGIZING comfort control systematically uses the functions of the air conditioning system and the seats (heater, ventilation, massage) as well as lighting and musical moods, and enables a specific wellness set-up tailored to the mood and needs of the customer.

The ENERGIZING package Plus (€ 4742.15) features additional ENERGIZING programmes and multicontour seats for driver and front passenger with massage function, climate-controlled seats for driver and front passenger with seat heaters and seat ventilation, AIR BALANCE package for fragrancing, ionising and purifying the air and ambient lighting with programme-specific light moods. The ENERGIZING package Plus further includes the ENERGIZING COACH, which offers individual recommendations.
