Land Rover is bringing a V-8 engine on the Defender table for 2022: the same 518-hp Supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 that you can see in Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models. The V-8 will be available for both – two-door and four-door models; a high-end Carpathian Edition model will also accommodate the V-8 engine. The package enhances the Defender with Carpathian Gray exterior with black roof and tailgate, black color tow hooks, blue brake calipers, and special Carpathian Edition badging.

The 296hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder seems interesting enough for every day commute but for those who want to tackle serious off-road trails may find the optional six-cylinder V8 engines to be more appealing choices.

The Defender is also available with 3.0-liter inline-six which have electric supercharger on it and 48-volt hybrid system. If looking for more aggressive version, then 518hp supercharged V8, which Land Rover claims can push the Defender to 60 mph I 4,9 seconds, might be a better choice. Unlike its grandpa, the new Defender has unibody construction versus a body-on-frame setup, and it has fully independent suspension as it should.

Considering fuel economy, the 90 model with four-cylinder has 18miles per gallon city and 21mpg high way. Step up to the six-cylinder engine and 90’s city rating drops to 17mpg but the highway rating slides up to 22mpg. The 110 model with the six-cylinder engine has the same estimates as the six-cylinder 90. The EPA still hasn’t shared fuel economy ratings for V8 engine.
