The GV60 is a subcompact crossover from Korean automaker Genesis. As a luxury brand spun-off from parent company Hyundai Motor, Genesis brings a premium design to the GV60’s exterior and interior. Not only do these convey sophistication and sportiness, but are executed with sustainability in mind.

Strictly speaking, the GV60 is not the first Genesis electric vehicle to come out in the metal. However, it is the first Genesis product built around the Hyundai E-GMP, or Electric Global Modular Platform. Although Hyundai will primarily supply the batteries for electric vehicles under its own brand, as well as Kia and Genesis, E-GMP is designed to support cells from multiple manufacturers.

A wheelbase exceeding 3,000mm can be accommodated, and E-GMP can be used in both rear-wheel and all-wheel drivetrains. The architecture is so flexible, Hyundai plans to use it on at least 23 electric vehicles, all in the next decade. Apart from the GV60, two more of those have already materialized: the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6.

We note that three different powertrains will be offered for the GV60. The most basic of these is a rear-wheel drive layout utilizing a single 225 horsepower electric motor. Genesis says that this model will boast the longest driving range, estimated at 450 kilometers on a single charge. For the midrange version, dual motors will power all four wheels with a combined output of 314 horsepower and a range of 400 kilometers.

The top-spec performance trim level will achieve 429 horsepower, also with a pair of electric motors and standard all-wheel drive, good for 368 kilometers. Genesis says this range-topping version can go from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just four seconds. A 77.4 kilowatt-hour battery pack will be standard for all trim levels. Ultra-high speed charging at 350 kilowatts puts the battery at 80 percent charge in just 18 minutes.
Exterior

The Genesis GV60 stands 4,515mm long, 1,890mm wide, and 1,580mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,900mm. It comes with a two-box design, as is typical with crossovers. However, the vehicle has a low-slung stance, giving off a powerful and athletic appearance. This is complemented by the fastback silhouette.

As the first dedicated electric vehicle in the Genesis stable, the GV60 is in a position to set the tone in terms of aesthetics. A dynamic and smooth appearance dominates the GV60’s exterior appearance. This was honed over the years by the carmaker’s experience in design, resulting in a sleek form.

The front end features a design that’s optimized exclusively for the GV60. A clamshell hood makes its first appearance on a Genesis vehicle. This combines the hood and fenders in creating a sleek rendition, removing unnecessary panel lines and joints.

A new Genesis wing emblem sits on the leading edge, flanked by twin banks of two-line quad LED headlamps. Compared to previous models, the emblem on the GV60 has been slimmed down by nearly 80 percent in thickness. More importantly, it is rendered in a Guilloche pattern often used in luxury watches.
The Crest Grille has been widened and placed lower in front, emphasizing the GV60’s dynamic performance. But more than aesthetics, the large opening also benefits the high-voltage battery in the vehicle’s underbody, by improving cooling efficiency.

Along the sides, the GV60 strikes a dramatic pose, whether standing still or in motion. This is thanks to the coupe silhouette. A chrome Day Light Opening element extends from the windshield, ending with a unique V shape at the C-pillar.

Contributing to the clean looks are the electric door handles which lie flush with the doors, popping out when the driver approaches with the smart key. Door side mouldings combined with prominent cladding around the wheel arches break the profile’s monotony. Buyers can choose between 19- and 21-inch alloy wheels.

See the small winglets attached to the A-pillars? Those are the GV60’s digital side mirrors, using cameras to capture video and project it in real-time inside the cabin. Their slim profile lends a cutting-edge look for the crossover.
Over at the rear, the roofline terminates in a fixed wing spoiler. The rear haunches emphasize the GV60’s wide stance, which further hint at the vehicle’s high performance. Wraparound Two Line LED rear lamps flank the large tailgate, echoing the exterior lights in front.

A total of 11 exterior colors are available for the GV60, including Uyuni White, Hanauma Mint, Carbon Metal, Royal Blue, and Savile Silver.
