Cloudsplitter is an eight-person gondola located at Whiteface Mountain Ski Area in Wilmington, New York, which is located in the Adirondacks. Cloudsplitter runs from the main base area of Whiteface to the summit of Little Whiteface (which is located about 2/3 up the mountain). It serves the most vertical and acreage of any lift at Whiteface, and is therefore often considered the main lift at Whiteface, and can often have a sizeable line in the winter. Cloudsplitter is, in my opinion, one of the most impressive lifts in the East. It's long, it's tall, it's steep, and it has a great break over at the end. It is truly a marvel of engineering! Cloudsplitter has the most vertical of any single-stage lift in Eastern North America (Skyeship Gondola at Killington has more vertical if you combine the two stages, which are technically separate, but connected lifts). This video was recorded just weeks after Cloudsplitter received new and improved gondola cabins, replacing the iconic, but aging old cabins.

Whiteface is a state-owned ski resort located in Wilmington, New York, in the Adirondacks. With a vertical drop of 3,430ft, Whiteface is the tallest ski are in Eastern North America. When the Olympics were held in nearby Lake Placid (about 10-15min away), in both 1932 and 1980, Whiteface hosted the alpine skiing events. Whiteface is known for its little base amenities, yet at the same time being a gigantic ski area (for East Coast standards). Due to its height, Whiteface is often is exposed to some extreme weather patterns, and as such is known for often having some quite icy skiing conditions.

In the summer Whiteface is home to scenic gondola rides, an auto road, and hiking trails.
