High Active Surfactants are commonly used in shampoo, liquid detergent, bubble bath and other cleansing products.

Surfactants can be supplied at a concentration of 25 – 28% or in a High Active form with a concentration of 65 – 70%.

Surfactants such as Sodium Laureth Sulphate, also known as SLES are often difficult to dilute because they are quite viscous. When added to water, rather than blending easily you get stratification in the mix when using conventional methods such as agitators. Globules of the high viscous surfactant remain undiluted and achieving a uniform mix can take a long time.

One of the simplest ways to dilute High Active Surfactants is by using a High Shear Silverson In-Line mixer on a recirculation basis. The surfactant is pumped into the water stream just prior to the In-Line mixer so that the liquid mixes immediately on contact in the High Shear rotor/stator workhead, resulting in a homogeneous, uniform mix.

High Active Surfactants should be diluted before other ingredients, especially those which can affect viscosity.
