This screen adaptation of the Maurice Maeterlinck’s tale was the first Soviet-American co-production.

The Blue Bird is an embodiment of happiness, both immediate and distant, that every person is sure to find if he recognizes it. The children of a woodcutter, Tiltil and Mitil, found themselves, while sleeping, in an amazing country, shown to them by Fairy Light. All domestic animals and foodstuffs come alive there and turn into real people. They helped the children fulfil the Fairy’s request – find the Blue Bird, although the bird proved to look different from what the brother and sister had seen in their dreams.

Diese Verfilmung des gleichnamigen Märchens von Maurice Maeterlinck ist der erste gemeinsame sowjetisch-amerikanische Film.

Der blaue Vogel ist eine Verkörperung des Glücks, das nah oder fern sein kann und das jeder Mensch hat; man muss nur dieses Glück erkennen können. Die Kinder des Holzfällers Myltyl und Tyltyl sind einmal in ein merkwürdiges Land geraten, das die Fee „Das Licht“ ihnen gezeigt hatte. Dort werden alle Haustiere und Lebensmittel in Leute verwandelt. Diese Leute helfen den Kindern, den Auftrag der Fee zu erfüllen und den blauen Vogel des Glücks zu finden. Der blaue Vogel erweist sich aber ganz anders, als die Geschwister es sich in ihren Träumen vorgestellt haben…

Синяя птица - это олицетворение счастья, далекого и близкого, которое есть у каждого человека, только его нужно суметь распознать. Дети дровосека, Тильтиль и Митиль, во сне попали в удивительную страну, которую им показала фея Свет. Все домашние животные, все продукты там оживают, превращаются в реальных людей. Они помогают детям выполнить поручение феи - найти Синюю птицу. Но она оказывается совсем не такой, какой брат и сестра представляли ее в своих мечтах.
