Angela Rayner is being told to apologise after she was called out for having apparently called a Conservative MP "scum".

Dehenna Davison, the MP for Bishop Auckland, said: "Absolutely disgraceful behaviour from the Labour front bench. Rayner needs to apologise immediately. This is not what politics is about."

Tory party chairman Amanda Milling added: "This is totally unacceptable... As elected representatives we have a duty to lead by example. Will she apologise and if not will Keir Starmer take action?"

West Bromwich East MP Nicola Richards said: "Awful behaviour... all because she’s offended by quotes from her own front bench. All from the party who were peddling the line this morning that the Government is “actively working against us to inflict harm on its own citizens”.

Party vice chair Andrew Bowie also called on Ms Rayner to apologise, saying: "We've become numb to abusive language in politics on social media, let's not take it into the chamber of the House of Commons."
