Lund | East Yorkshire, England.

A 4K sight and sound only walking experience.

Filmed on 17.04.2024

This walk takes us through the small Yorkshire village of Lund which is situated in the Yorkshire Wolds about 6 miles from the historic market town of Beverley. This quaint destination is a hidden gem surrounded by prime agricultural land which offers an authentic taste of rural England. What this village lacks in amenities and entertainment it more than makes up for in character and aesthetics as it really is a pretty place to walk through.

Got a spare five minutes? View Lund from above by watching the 'From The Air' film which accompanies this walk.

With a population under 500, this picturesque village is home to the All Saints Church built in the Norman period, The Wellington Inn, the village hall and a small pond. Both the pub and the church are Grade II listed buildings.

The church which dominates the centre of this attractive village with its prominent Perpendicular tower has a Norman font, remnants of medieval monuments and a good Victorian east window by Clayton and Bell, brought here from Langtoft Church.

It is also the birthplace of John Fancy, a former British WWII airman whose tunnelling escapes from various German prisoner of war camps earned him the nickname The Mole and inspired the famous book and film The Great Escape.

In 1823, Lund was in the Wapentake of Harthill. In the market place the remains of a market cross which is still there to this day was used as a site to sell goods every Thursday in Lent.

The parishioners had erected a public school for an unlimited number of children. Population at the time was 357. Occupations included fifteen farmers, one of whom was in occupation of the seat of a local notable family. There were three shoemakers, three shopkeepers, two tailors, a parish clerk and a parish constable, a schoolmaster, a workhouse governess, a blacksmith, a bricklayer, a saddler, a butcher, and the landlords of The Plough, and The Lord Wellington public house. Three carriers operated between the village, Beverley and Market Weighton twice weekly.

|| About Walk The World Away ||

Hello everyone, my name's Jamie Paul and this is my walking channel. Since I love the outdoors and walking in nature so much I decided to start filming my walks so that I could share them with you lovely people wherever you are in the world. In an ideal world I would probably build a small house on top of one of the Lake District fells, grow my beard down to the ground, and walk forever through the beautiful Cumbrian mountains until I could walk no more. Sigh. But instead, being a more practical kind of bloke, I am on the search for smaller, more accessible walks around England that I can capture on film and share with you all.

I focus my attention on the most scenic and peaceful walks I can find, either in the countryside or along the coast, and I do love to check out old villages, cities and towns too if they pass the picturesque test and have some historical interest thrown into the mix.

Let me know in the comments if you know of any beautiful places to amble around that I just haven't considered yet. And yes, this a new channel so bear with me as I endeavour to bring you high definition 4K video with quality sound. I have an arts degree in photography, so I know a little bit about how things should look, and quality is the name of the game here.

And as always, please like and subscribe if you love to walk too, and we can build the channel together as we walk the world away.

Peace,
Jamie Paul 🕊️
