To truly maximize the transformative power of AI and to ensure equitable access to its many game-changing benefits, we must innovate ethically and responsibly. In this Spring 2024 Ackerman Lecture, Professor Renée Cummings explores justice-oriented approaches to designing, developing and deploying AI. As Data Activist-in-Residence (UVA) and Co-Director of the AI Equity Lab at the Brookings Institute, she argues that we must embrace both a risk-based and a rights-based approach, shaped by a sophisticated understanding of equity and justice. And she argues for co-creating sustainable AI solutions in collaborative communities.
The Lillie and Nathan Ackerman Lecture Series on Equality and Justice (Ackerman Lecture). Recorded at Baruch College, on May 2, 2024.
