The Blazer nameplate has a long history at Chevrolet. From the truck-based K5 Blazer to the 2-door S10 Blazer, these have historically been off-road capable, brawny, and distinctive machines. So, how does the newest Blazer fare, considering it’s front-wheel-drive platform and low-profile tires? According to Chris Wardlaw, it’s time to stop viewing the Blazer as a Ford Bronco with a bowtie, and start thinking of it as the Camaro of crossovers.

The Blazer comes standard with a 4-cylinder engine, but the optional V6 engine (which is the only choice for AWD Blazers) is a real treat. 305 horsepower motivates this more powerful crossover, and the AWD system’s ability to deliver 85% of the power to a single rear wheel means its capable of tearing around corners. Add in the grippy 21-inch tires, and the Blazer truly feels like a Camaro in crossover clothing.

Unfortunately, while the Blazer does have a few nice interior touches, there remains too much hard plastic inside to match a price tag capable of sniffing $50,000. And the fact that Chevrolet includes its best advanced safety features on the top trims (and even then, only as options), means shoppers in the market for a base-model Blazer will have to do without a competitive set of sensors and equipment.

Pricing for the Blazer starts below $30,000, but CarGurus’ recommended Premier trim will run into the 40’s, and our test vehicle stickered for over $49,000. For more information about the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer, read Chris’ full review on CarGurus: https://cargur.us/tbzp7
