On April 30 at 7pm EDT, Ethan Hawke joins Artistic Director & Co-Head Cameron Bailey to revisit Richard Linklater’s beloved BEFORE SUNRISE. Then, at 7:30pm EDT hit play on Crave while we live tweet the beginning of Jesse and Céline together using #TIFFAtHome.

We want to share the magic of filmgoing together while we watch from home. With this in mind, TIFF has curated a series from Crave’s extensive selection of titles, accompanied by conversations with special guests via Instagram. Learn more on http://TIFF.net/stayathome.

On a train from Budapest to Vienna, American tourist Jesse (Ethan Hawke) strikes up conversation with French student Céline (Julie Delpy), and the two quickly develop a rapport. When the train arrives at its destination, Jesse convinces Céline to disembark with him and spend the night roaming around the city before they both catch their flights back to their respective homelands the next day, leading to a long night of passionate discussion, rapturous romantic spontaneity, and knowingly impossible courtship. A minor box-office success on its initial release, Richard Linklater's lovers' discourse has since become a cherished classic of romantic cinema, a winningly homegrown American analogue to Éric Rohmer's Gallic gabfests. Nine years later, Hawke and Delpy recreated their characters in Linklater's Before Sunset, which poignantly depicts the original's youthful infatuation transformed into mature regret.
