Today We Showcase 8 Extremely Small Electric Vehicles That You Can Buy Cheaply.

What’s good about EVs is that they don’t require as many moving parts as those on conventional vehicles, allowing automakers to design and engineer models that maximize interior space. This means more room for passengers, cargo, and even tech features, without having to compromise propulsion. Companies can even come up with EVs that have a smaller physical footprint than combustion-powered vehicles, making mobility easier.
Number eight on our list is the Smart EQ Fortwo, retailing at $24,950. This model was formerly marketed as the Smart Fortwo electric drive or Smart Fortwo EV, now on its fourth generation. As the name implies, it takes on the appearance of an extremely short two-door, two-seater hatchback, measuring at 2,695mm long, 1,663mm wide, and 1,555mm high.
Despite its miniscule dimensions, the Smart EQ Fortwo comes with plenty of features normally found in bigger cars. Seats come in fabric or optional leather, and there are storage compartments found on the doors as well as a lockable glove box. A 3-spoke multifunction leather steering wheel is standard, along with an instrument panel and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display that supports smartphone linking. There’s even a trunk for cargo, expandable up to 350 liters.

Unlike its three previous iterations, the current Smart EQ Fortwo is available exclusively with electric power, packing a 17.6 kilowatt-hour battery powering a 60-kilowatt electric motor. This has an output of 82 horsepower and 160 Newton-meters of torque that go to the rear wheels via an automatic single-speed transmission, with a top speed of 130 kilometers per hour.

A full charge returns a range of almost 160 kilometers, according to the New European Driving Cycle standard. The Smart EQ Fortwo uses one of two Type 2 onboard chargers, the faster of which can top up the battery from zero to 100 percent in as little as 48 minutes.
Number seven is the Uniti One, priced at $21,000. Manufactured by Swiss automotive startup Uniti, this EV is a 3-door, 3-seater model measuring 3,222mm long, 1,709mm wide, and 1,505mm high. Users can load up to 760 liters of cargo on its trunk. Within the cabin, the steering wheel is centrally mounted on the dashboard, bordered by two touchscreens that feature the Android operating system. A panoramic roof provides good visibility.

The Uniti One is reportedly oriented towards comfort as well as ease of maintenance, with swappable panels that can easily be removed and replaced in the event of damage. Propulsion comes in the form of a 50-kilowatt electric motor delivering 67 horsepower and 85.4 Newton-meters of torque, powered by a 24 kilowatt-hour battery. The EV can manage a top speed of 120 kilometers per hour, with a range of 300 kilometers. A 50-kilowatt Type 2 charger can bring the battery level to 80 percent in as fast as 17 minutes.
At number six is the Microlino 2.0, carrying a retail price of $14,650. Currently the second generation of the Microlino microcar from Swiss mobility company Micro, the Microlino 2.0’s tech is largely overshadowed by its retro design. The aesthetics were reportedly inspired by the 1950s-era Isetta bubble car by BMW, and measures 2,430mm long, 1,500mm wide, and 1,450mm high.
Addressing concerns that small vehicles are unsafe, the Microlino 2.0 is made from a frame that combines steel and aluminum, which supposedly makes it as strong as a full-size car. Much like the Isetta, passengers climb into and out of the Microlino 2.0 through a front door that swings to the side.

There’s room aboard for two passengers on a bench seat plus 220 liters of cargo, while controls are a bit on the minimalist side. Just beyond the steering wheel is a digital display that shows essential vehicle information. There’s no fixed onboard entertainment system, helping to keep the dashboard uncluttered. Instead, users can attach their smartphones and wireless speakers to a horizontal bar.

The Microlino 2.0 derives power from a choice of two batteries running its electric motor. One is rated at 8 kilowatt-hours good for 125 kilometers of range, while the other delivers 14.4 kilowatt-hours for up to 200 kilometers of range. The tiny EV manages a maximum speed of 90 kilometers per hour, and Micro claims that the Microlino 2.0 can be fully charged in four hours using a standard home socket.
Coming in at number five is the Eli Zero, with a price tag ranging from $9,900 to $11,900. The Zero EV is a product of Beijing-based company Eli, and is classified as a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle or NEV, emphasizing its use for short trips. Dimensions are 2,250mm in length and 1,380mm in width, standing at 1,588mm high. The Eli Zero comes in three variants, with headlamps ranging from halogens to dual-beam LEDs. A tiltable sunroof and electronic-controlled rear-view mirror are standard across the range.
