A Prince of India, in this episode he discusses the responsibility of being a Royal Family member and the role he plays in a republic to preserve India’s culture and heritage. He shares the challenges of coming out as a gay man and the negative reaction from other members of the royal family and local population – who burned effigies of him. MORE INFO ABOUT THE LOVE HISTORY PODCAST

The Love History Podcast launched on 8th February 2024 - the beginning of LGBTQ+ History Month - on all podcast platforms and YouTube.

This podcast explores the question: “What happens when an LGBTQ+ historian and a River Thames Mudlark explore their shared love of history with special guests who are themselves making or changing history by the way they live their lives?”

This first series is a history lesson like no other. It will explore the history we didn’t learn about at school – whether that is LGBTQ+ history, how and why we dress the way we do, how an Indian Maharaja created a mini Windsor Castle - now an LGBTQ+ community space - in Gujarat, and which bizarre historical rituals helped to ward off evil spirits.

Your Podcast Hosts:
Mok O’Keeffe, known on social media as @gayaristo
An LGBTQ+ historian, sharing hidden history and highlighting untold stories. Mok is a PhD candidate focusing on the Country House as a place of refuge and community for LGBTQ+ people. He has been featured in Country Life, The Daily Express, Metro and BBC1. He is the presenter of History Out of The Closet on Glitterbeam Radio, the world’s fastest growing LGBTQ+ radio station.

Marie-Louise Plum, known on social media as @oldfatherthames.
Marie is the ‘Tide Travelling Mudlark’ who searches the River Thames at low tide, saving historic artefacts and unearthing lost and forgotten stories from London and Global History. You may have seen or heard her on BBC Radio 4, YouTube, London Live, and NBC, or, at live events in historic venues such as St. Paul's Cathedral, London's Roman Amphitheatre and the National Maritime Museum.
