If someone asked you “what is a human,” could you answer? What does it mean to be human after all?

Time of Eve (both the movie and the anime) is a story about the human definition, expressed through the doubtful feelings of Rikuo, its main character. An android owner like most youth, he could be considered “android-holic” as he slowly comes to treat his, Sammy, more human due to what he learns at Time of Eve, a cafe where humans and androids are treated the same. Seeing robotic customers there, like Akiko, Rina, or Kotoran, all express feelings which make Rikuo, a human, feel himself, he doubts the value inherent to “being human,” and takes it harshly with little else in life but this definition to give him personal value. However, his time with these customers at Time of Eve leads to Rikuo reconsidering his mindset and the human definition, believing that a more personal answer to “what does it mean to be human?” may be a better life philosophy. After all, does machines becoming man have to lessen our value? Or is the typical mindset exclusionary and harmful? Overall, ToE (the movie or anime) is a short, but thematically deep story, discussing humans, androids, and analyzing the line between man and machine.
