In this video, Jeff Galvin, CEO of the clinical-stage company American Gene Technologies, presents AGT’s groundbreaking gene and cell therapy strategy for curing HIV at the Cell & Gene Meeting on the Mediterranean.

HIV affects approximately 1.1 million people in the United States and millions more around the world. Many HIV-positive individuals depend on daily antiretrovirals and suffer from unpleasant side effects and long-term consequences from medications that do not cure the disease. AGT’s HIV Cure Program aims to create a functional cure for HIV by creating viral vectors capable of introducing protective genes into HIV-specific CD4 T cells.

AGT’s HIV Cure Program is currently in Phase 1 of clinical trials, and Galvin believes that safety data from the trials will be available soon, with an efficacy signal found by the end of the year. With clinical trials underway, Galvin is confident that AGT is at the forefront of developing a cure for the HIV virus that eliminates antiretroviral therapy dependency and creates a natural immunity against the disease in HIV-positive individuals.
