Ethiopia's Prime Minister has been meeting soldiers fighting Tigrayan rebels in the north.
Abiy Ahmed said his forces are making gains.
The government declared a state of emergency this month, as rebels moved closer to the capital.
The US and other countries have told their citizens to leave immediately.
