Tamron 150-500mm First Look! Photographer Alain Martinez shares his thoughts on the new Tamron 150-500mm f/5-6.7 di iii vc vxd telephoto lens for Sony. This is a compact ultra-telephoto zoom lens with image stabilization specifically designed for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras. Alain took the Tamron lens out for a spin in Miami Beach and was able to get some great shots.

Lens highlights:

- Designed to be approximately the same size as Sony’s 100-400mm GM while achieving a maximum focal length of 500mm and incorporation of Vibration Compensation (VC).
- Highly portable compact design
- 82mm filter diameter
- Physical Lens Diameter – 3.66” (93mm)
- Length – 8.2” (209mm) at 150mm position; 11.1” (283mm) at 500mm position
- Tamron 150-600 is only 4mm longer than Sony 100-400mm at minimum focal length position
- Tamron 150-500 is 1.4” (35mm) shorter than Sony 200-600mm when fully extended
- Weight – 60.8 oz. (1725g)
- Tripod collar adds 5.4 oz. (155g)
- Aperture Range: 150mm – F/5, 250mm – F/5.6, 400mm – F/6.3, 450mm – F/6.7, 500mm – F/6.7
- VXD Focusing System: Newly-developed VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) Autofocus System
- With the VXD focusing system AF accuracy and tracking capability are dramatically improved and is useful in both still and video applications
