Here is a VAVA 4K Laser projector using ALPD 1.0 Display technology. It uses a single laser source to create all the colors needed using a combination Phosphor/Color wheel. This particular projector was sent to me by someone I talked to on Reddit. He had sent it to an authorized shop without any luck. They quoted some crazy price of $900+ saying it needed a mainboard when in reality the mainboard was fine. All they managed to do was put a screw through a cable and waste a bunch of the owners time and shipping money.

I have never worked on an ALPD projector before. I have read about them in passing but never really looked into the technology. I must admit, its pretty interesting. I was surprised to see that the ALPD 1.0 engine being used in the VAVA was patented in 2007. I guess if it works, it works.

After some normal troubleshooting I came across what seemed like a weird reading on the phosphor wheel wire. Further examination led me to a seized wheel. finding the wheel was problem 2.

Thankfully the projectors owner was more than happy to assist in locating parts. VAVA and Appotronics were no help. they wanted us to send it in when I clearly had the issue in front of me.
Now I have a source for some parts for these, which is awesome!

I must admit. I am finding these laser units more interesting the more I work on them. I still prefer lamp based projectors but the solid state light engines are really getting nice. They will surpass lamps soon in all ways.

If you have a VAVA/XGIMI/Fengmi and its acting up, drop a comment. I am far from an expert at this point but I am working on it. As of this posting, I have another VAVA on the way with a different issue. Once I finish looking at/repairing/determining its dead, I will add a link to its video.

Thanks for watching!
