Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to change the way we live and work. Integrating AI across all sectors holds the promise of creating thousands of jobs and driving economic growth. By one estimate, AI’s contribution to the United Kingdom could be as large as 5% of GDP by 2030.

Chat GPT and other AI tools are transforming the way people interact, work, and make decisions. Public sector organisations are already implementing AI for tasks ranging from fraud detection to answering customer queries. While the potential applications of AI in the public sector are extensive, it is crucial to carefully consider ethical, fairness, and safety implications.

Experts from Microsoft and local authorities leading in the use of AI offer an introductory session to familiarise the audience with AI essentials; what it is, and how it can be used. Hosted by Gavin Jones, Chief Executive of Essex County Council this Data Talks session presents an overview of the range, and value of AI applications open to the public sector. It also explores the guardrails that exist to ensure responsible use, and examine the attitudes of citizens and communities.
