The all-new Kluger is more stylish, technologically advanced, safer and more fuel efficient than any previous Kluger model. Buyers will be able to choose from three main variant levels, from the GX, GXL, and Grande. All of these will be available in front- and all-wheel drive with a 3.5-litre petrol V6, as well as a new hybrid setup available in all-wheel drive only, but in all three grades.

Built on Toyota’s latest TNGA platform, the all-new Kluger has a 60mm longer wheelbase than its predecessor, and is slightly wider than the previous model. Toyota says this helps to improve overall comfort inside.


The V6 can be had in front or all-wheel-drive, paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and offering 218kW and 350Nm of torque, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission

But the bigger news is the hybrid, which pairs a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with three electric motors.


Power is sent to the wheels via Toyota’s e-CVT transmission, and into a new e-Four AWD system that can change power distribution from 100 per cent at the front wheels to 80 per cent to the rear, depending on the demands and conditions.

These AWD models will come packaged with Toyota’s multi-terrain select system, with Rock & Dirt, Mud & Sand driving modes.

Newly developed multilink front and rear suspension ensures the optimum balance of ride comfort and dynamic handling while superb braking performance – on road and off – comes courtesy of the large 340mm front and 338mm rear ventilated disc brakes.

Safety has been significantly improved with new features for Toyota Safety Sense with the addition of road sign assist, emergency steering assist and intersection turn assistance on every model.

The new Toyota Highlander (combined fuel consumption: 5.5-5.1 l / 100 km, combined CO 2 emissions: 124-116 g / km) starts at prices from 53,250 euros in Germany. The 4.95 meter long family SUV comes with seven seats as well as hybrid and all-wheel drive as standard. Customers can choose from three equipment lines and extensive accessories for further customization.

As an entry-level version, the Business Edition already offers many amenities: In addition to heated and electrically adjustable front seats, it includes 18-inch alloy wheels, parabolic LED headlights with automatic high beam, tinted rear and rear side windows from the B-pillar, a reversing camera an infotainment system with an eight-inch display and smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a wireless charging cradle for smartphones as standard equipment. On colder days, the heated leather steering wheel, a windscreen de-icer and heated windscreen washer nozzles have a positive effect. The latest generation of Toyota Safety Sense, which combines various assistance systems, also creates a close-knit safety network. A blind spot warner is also included.

The hybrid drive, which is typical of the brand, takes over the propulsion regardless of the equipment line and accessories: The combination of a 2.5-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor on the front and rear axles develops a system output of 179 kW / 248 PS and ensures high efficiency. With an unladen weight of at least 2,015 kilograms, the standard consumption is just 5.1 to 5.5 liters per 100 kilometers, which corresponds to CO 2 emissions of 116 to 124 g / km.

A driving mode selector allows the driver to choose between ECO, NORMAL, SPORT and TRAIL. All four modes can be used when the vehicle is in EV mode.
