Mexico City has a population of around 22 million people. This makes Mexico City the 5th largest city in the world, and is classified as a mega city. It is sinking at a rate of about 10 inches per year due to the fact that the entire city is built upon a lake bed.

The population in Mexico City has been growing like crazy over the past 100 years. The result of this is that water and waste management has become a crisis in, in addition to being able to feed a booming population.

Recently, though, some of this is starting to turn around. Plots of abandoned land has been turned into a green waste management system. This technology helps reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the process of recycling.
