The nation’s best minds were designing long-range rockets, jet planes, and huge tanks with impenetrable armor. Some ambitious projects saw the light of day early in the war, such as the 800mm monstrous cannons Dora and Schwerer Gustav, or small-scale projects (for example, the Messerschmitt Me 262 jet fighter, which was a breakthrough for its time).
