September was a big month, politically, and Boris Johnson has the chance to make some big decisions in order to avoid the worst impacts of brexit and the continuing covid pandemic. However, he largely acted to distract and put off implementing measures, so now we are likely to see worsening impacts in October. Furlough is ending, the uplift for universal credit is ending, there are no serious mitigations against covid, and our vaccination rate is falling behind. We have not addressed the skills shortage in our workforce and so brexit shortages will continue.
