Portal, Arizona: June 6 to June 13, 2017
Portal (population 1,370), Cochise County, Arizona, a popular birding destination, is located in southeastern Arizona at the mouth of Cave Creek Canyon on the east side of the Chiricahua Mountains. Sometimes called the Yosemite of Arizona, the rock-walled canyon is composed of fused volcanic tuff.
Typical of upland Arizona, Portal has a semi-arid climate with warm to hot days and cool nights. In the winter frequent frost gives way to mild days. Most rain comes from summer thunderstorms.
