Giving my friend a 9.9 km ride on my Omnium cargobike through the streets of Kuala Lumpur. Being two big Danes (shoe size 44 and 45), I am sure that our combined weight reached the max. loading capacity of 175 kg of the cargobike.

The trip had a 2-fold mission. Firstly, to show my friend a pedestrian friendly route to the office, as he is frequently walks to the office these days while his car is getting fixed. So, I took him down along the Klang river where the 1st bicycle lane of Kuala Lumpur was established in 2015, namely the 5 km long South West bicycle corridor from Dataran Merdeka to Midvalley. Unfortunately, two segments of this bicycle corridor are currently under construction, one being impassable, as we found out. However, most of this scenic bicycle route along the river can still be used, especially if you are a pedestrian. The other pedestrian friendly short-cut I showed him is the long staircase linking the quiet residential areas of Federal Hill and Bangsar.

Secondly, I was giving my friend a lift to the office. It so happens that we live across the street from one another, and we also work in the same building. Very convenient :-)

This was the first time that I gave my friend a ride on my cargobike. And he was a good sport, enjoying the trip immensely and seeing new sides of Kuala Lumpur that he had never seen despite having lived here since the early 1980s (about 35 years).

Enjoy the ride, for which I only consumed 30% of the battery power, costing only 0.015 USD (RM0.06) to recharge. Very cheap!

Enjoy the ride!

Video highlights:
0:00 Map animation of the route using the free Relive app (www.relive.cc). Either record the route directly on the app (on your phone), or export the GPS file to the app or website (which is what I did). Fun. Will use it again :-)
0:35 Guard looks confused about me picking up somebody on a bicycle
1:04 Adjusting saddle and giving seating instruction for passenger on cargobike. Very important to place legs so they don't collide with front wheel, as well as handlebar clearance for steering.
1:28 The trip begins....
3:36 Cyclists waving to us. We got many positive reactions during the trip (thumbs up, people filming us etc.)
4:41 Avoiding bumps / holes / edges on the road to avoid puncturing the bicycle
7:52 Entering the bicycle path along the Klang river; the pedestrian / bicycle paths are part of the River of Life project. Good initiative!
10:31 Entering the construction zone of River of Life (construction has been ongoing for quite some time, approx. 2 years, but the bicycle path is still not fully constructed, so walking parts of the route was necessary)
13:25 Finding construction workers taking a break and again at 17:07. Perhaps that's one of the reasons for the slow progress..... ;-)
18:25 Bicycle path is blocked by construction. U-turn necessary. Hopefully, the bicycle path will be re-established as part of the construction / River of Life project.
22:37 Interesting background information person, who Jalan Tun Sambanthan is named after.
25:31 Making the turn into Federal hill on Lorong Travers leading to the staircase shortcut to the Bangsar side
28:33 Arriving at the shortcut staircase connecting Jalan Negri Sembilan with Jalan Limau Manis. Watch me bring down my cargobike down the staircase using the wheel barrel technique. A smart trick for such a big heavy bike ;-)
32:00 Background information on Maarof, namely named after the headman of a village (Kampug Ma'arof). Interesting :-)
36:06 Going around the backside of Bangsar Shopping Centre
44:46 Arriving at the office, the Syed Kechik Foundation building, the highest point in Bangsar.
45:04 Good profile view of the electric Omnium cargobike
45:16 Three slides with statistics from the trip, e.g. distance, speed, cadance, elevation profile, temperature, calories etc.

My Omnium cargobike is from Denmark, but available on their webshop. I got mine delivered within 1 week of ordering it! Several viewers asked about the bike, so here are the details.
Website: https://omniumcargo.dk/

Price: RM10,000 (USD2500) for the cargobike without electric motor
Price: RM15,000 (USD3750) for the cargobike with electric motor, which is the one I have. The electric motor is a Shimano STEPS 8000 power unit. Motor power is 250 W (the max limit allowed in the EU), the battery stores 0.5 kWh of electricity, giving a range of 80-100 km, and only costing RM0.20 (USD0.05) to charge. Cheap operating expenses :-)

Most tracks are by the artist Vibe Tracks. Decided to play music for the entire video to mask the conversation between my friend and I. Privacy ensured :-)
