I was one of the independent documentary & commercial filmmakers fortunate enough to work closely with AT&T in the early 1990s AT&T believed that they would dominate communications and that millions of customers would visit their website to connect with the new world of telecommunications, cell phones, photographs on phones, wireless communication etc. They did not (I know that this is hard to believe but I was there) see the growing of Internet communications and how that was The place to be.

By the mid-1990s when this video was made, the executives at AT&T and other companies could see the future, but AT&T saw itself as the center of it. One of the words they created at that time was the word "hosting", indicating that they would be the hosts for every business and every website. In other words, they would be the "center." They believed that they could beat all competitors and continue to use their sites and services to in effect, control their customers. It was a very bright time inside the AT&T corporate offices in New Jersey except if you had the vision that I was I was hearing from leaders in Silicon Valley where the start up companies that I was working for saw AT&T as a dinosaur that was going to get creamed in the new world of the web, wireless, etc.. In fact they "get creamed" and the AT&T that you see today isn't the same company that I made this and so many other films for.

If you were around at that time, this will be nostalgia for you to watch and you will remember campaigns like the "You Will campaign" that was so popular back then.

If you are a younger person, my video will hopefully give you a perspective on the enormous changes that we have seen with the growing of the World Wide Web. With any foresight at all, you can speculate that things are moving so rapidly that we will soon have future technologies that, as people like Elon Musk predict, sound like pie-in-the-sky dreaming right now but I suspect won't within just a few years.
