This year’s lecture series is entitled “Greening New England.” Each week’s lecture will highlight the organizations, achievements, and ongoing efforts that are making New England more sustainable.

Tonight, we will learn about the work of the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation program that is designed to “to reduce household heating and cooling energy use by increasing tree canopy cover in urban residential areas.”

Our presenters are Samantha Eanes and Sarah Greenleaf. Both Samantha and Sarah are Urban Foresters with the Massachusetts DCR, specifically in the program they will talk about tonight, the Urban and Community Forestry Greening the Gateway Cities Program. Both Sarah and Samantha have a wide variety of experiences working with different tree species in a variety of urban settings, including New York City, Oregon, California, Detroit, and now across western Massachusetts while they help make New England more green.
