First Look! 2025 Ford Maverick Exposed: The Future of Pickup Trucks!

This week, spy photographers caught a revamped Ford Maverick testing in Dearborn, giving us our first look at Ford's Escape-based trucklet's first improvements. Given how popular the Maverick is, Ford doesn't need to change much with its formula, but even strong cars require tech upgrades, and that appears to be Ford's tiny pickup's focus.

We're looking at three trucks to avoid misunderstanding. All three have adequately camouflaged mid-cycle refresh exterior components. Camo can be misleading, but new front/rear bumpers and lighting are likely.

The silver truck is presumably a Lariat street model with a well-equipped inside. Below left, it is seen adjacent to a 2024 Lariat-based Maverick Tremor (right). The prototype inside is mostly camouflaged, but the new screen fills the cubby's spot on the center stack. Same wheel and controls. The prototype inside is mostly camouflaged, but the new screen fills the cubby's spot on the center stack. Same wheel and controls. The teched-up mule is also mysterious. Ford may be utilizing this prototype as a testbed for anything (even non-Maverick projects), but given how well it's equipped with electronics, two things seem likely. This mule is for Blue Cruise. Ford already offers Blue Cruise in CUVs built on this platform, so its inclusion on Maverick is possible. However, at over $40,000, the tiny truck seems doubtful for premium semi-self-driving tech.

Another possibility is that we're seeing the first development of a towing camera/blind spot system. Strong corner sensors may be radar or lidar, and the door-mounted cameras face the same direction, suggesting monitoring or redundancy. Ford's upgraded Super Duty configuration looks a lot like this. It would be a good fit for a "newbie" vehicle like the Maverick because it makes towing less daunting, but its restricted towing capacity may limit its utility.

We think this is a 2025 model due to its polish, but that's not definite. We expect to learn more soon. Stay updated.
