January, cruising on magnificent Highway 1091 that connects the cities of Nan and Chun in Phayao province. Some 130+ kilometers of twisties and moderately steep sections on a perfect asphalt surface. Route 1091 is widely regarded as one of the top motorcycle touring roads in Northern Thailand. Back in 2016, I and my wife narrowly avoided catastrophe on this very same road when the GS rear tire got shredded by a sharp piece of metal. Luckily, I managed to control the bike and avoid the crash. While we were waiting by the roadside, with no village or any other human habitation in sight, suddenly a couple of good samaritans stopped and offered help. It was the mayor of Nakhon Sawan city himself, what a nice guy. We loaded the bike at the back of his pickup truck and he gave us a lift all the way to Chiang Rai City.... an amazing act of kindness, will never forget this.
