Har lehza ba shakal aan but-e-ayyaar baraamad…
Khud kooza-o, khud koozagar-o, khud gil-e-kuza
Khud rind-e-subu kash

Blink, and there he was in a different form – that sly Beloved!...
He was the potter, the clay, the crafted cup.
He was the drunk who drained the cup

An 'ayyaar' is a 'pious rogue' and love is often described in this idiom in Persian Sufi poetry. Rumi calls his Beloved sly…. sly because he fools us with so much ease into believing that He is only here, not there, in one form, and not in another, and how we fall for this deception!
