The Honda City Hybrid makes a big leap for hybrid cars in the Indian market. Aside from offering a similar space and practicality package as the regular Honda City, it gets a powertrain that can deliver truly phenomenal fuel-efficiency. However, we had to see just how much the City Hybrid could deliver on a full tank, compared to other efficiency championing technologies - diesel and cylinder-deactivation.

The Honda City diesel represents the good old-fashioned way of maximizing mileage while the Volkwagen Virtus DSG represents a way to get the best of efficiency as well as performance and excitement. To see how they stack up against each other in the real world, Alan, Arun and Tushar took these cars on a two-day long road-trip, driving through unforgiving city traffic, open highways and interstate roads clogged with fluctuating traffic. This is the definitive tank range test, including every possible kind of driving, to answer just one question - who survives the longest in the drive to death?
