The inaugural flight of the KAAN Fighter, marking a pivotal moment in Turkish military aerospace history, signifies the country's maiden venture into developing a homegrown, fifth-generation warplane. This event, albeit the flight lasted a mere 13 minutes, symbolizes a monumental stride towards self-reliance in air defense capabilities. The KAAN Fighter, a stealth, twin-engine, all-weather air superiority fighter, emerges from the collaboration between the state-owned Turkish Aerospace Industries and the British multinational BAE Systems, serving as a subcontractor. This initiative underscores Turkey's dedication since 2010 to cultivate an indigenous military aviation sector, with Turkish Aerospace Industries dedicating initial efforts towards a successful line of drones and unmanned aircraft, subsequently expanding into helicopter manufacturing. The imminent service entry of the advanced Attack 2 helicopter with the Turkish military further exemplifies this expansion.
