Before removing the lens filter:

1. Check if the filter is dented or still perfectly round
2. Is the glass cracked? 
1. Remove the broken glass. 
2.  Use a precision screwdriver take out the retaining ring that hold the lens in place.   
2. Does your lens have internal focus or does the front rotate when AF is activated.
