I've played a heap of stringed instruments but, until now, never a viola de terra - a centuries-old instrument shaped like a guitar but with triple-course strings in three octaves. The instrument originated in the Azores and spread through Portugal and beyond. Here I'm playing an instrument owned by Lazaro Silva, who teaches at a conservatory in Angra do Heroísmo on Terceira. Watch him here (recorded in 2012): https://vimeo.com/52583206
