The Volkswagen Tiguan has been a global success for the German automaker, and the company aims to keep the momentum going with the all-new third-generation model for 2024. We recently got behind the wheel of VW's refreshed family hauler to see if it has what it takes to stay at the top of its class.

Subtle But Sharper Styling
At first glance, the 2024 Tiguan doesn't look radically different from its predecessor. VW took an evolutionary approach to the redesign, keeping the overall shape intact but sharpening the styling with a more aggressive front fascia, slimmer headlights, and sharper character lines along the sides. The end result is a slightly sleeker look that brings the Tiguan more in line with VW's latest design language.

Premium And Practical Interior
Where the Tiguan really separates itself is with its overhauled interior. The cabin gets a modern makeover with a freestanding 12.9-inch (or optional 15.0-inch) central touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, and premium materials throughout. VW's designers did an excellent job balancing technology and practicality, with ample passenger space, a massive 652-liter cargo area, and versatile 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats.

Comfortable And Composed On The Road
Powering the 2024 Tiguan is a range of turbocharged gasoline engines, including a 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 148 horsepower in our tester. While not a performance powerhouse, the 1.5 provides enough grunt for daily driving duties, with a 0-60 mph time of 9.1 seconds. More importantly, the Tiguan impresses with its refined road manners, soaking up bumps with ease and remaining planted and composed when hustled around corners.

The available adaptive suspension lets you firm up or soften the ride with the twist of a knob, giving the Tiguan a surprising amount of versatility. In its softest setting, the big VW soaks up road imperfections like a luxury car, while the sportiest mode tightens up body motions for more engaging dynamics – all without compromising ride quality.

Impressive Tech And Safety
On the tech front, the Tiguan packs all the latest gadgets, including wireless phone mirroring, a slick voice control system, and an optional head-up display. Safety is also a strong point, with standard automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and more across the entire lineup.

The main downside is that pricing creeps up quickly as you climb the trim ladder, with top models easily eclipsing $40,000. But even in base form, the 2024 Tiguan makes a compelling case with its blend of versatility, comfort, and user-friendly technology. After spending some quality time with VW's latest family hauler, it's easy to see why the Tiguan remains one of the automaker's global best-sellers.
