“AI is here to stay. I think we can all agree on that”, American psychologist, cognitive scientist and author Gary Marcus says at the outset of his highly engaging DLD Munich presentation.

The important question we should be asking, he argues, is: “What kind of AI world do we want?”

Marcus takes a close look at the current state of AI and explains why he feels that today’s systems are technically and morally inadequate. Generative AI systems like ChatGPT pose multiple risks, he says, for examlpe because they can easily be abused and often produce incorrect or misleading information. He also sees big issues with intellectual property rights and plagiarism.
