What is Hajj?
Hajj is an annual Islamic pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. It is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and is a religious duty for able-bodied Muslims who can afford it. Hajj is performed during the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah.

The pilgrimage involves several rituals and acts of worship that commemorate the life and actions of the Prophet Muhammad and the story of the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham in the Bible) and his family. Here is a brief overview of the main components of Hajj:

Ihram: Pilgrims enter a state of ihram, which involves wearing simple white garments for men and loose modest clothing for women. This signifies a state of purity and equality.

Tawaf: Pilgrims perform the tawaf, which is the act of circling the Kaaba, the sacred building at the center of the Grand Mosque in Mecca, seven times in a counterclockwise direction. It symbolizes unity and the worship of Allah.

Sa'i: Pilgrims then perform Sa'i, which involves walking or running seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwa, following the path of Hajar (Hagar), the wife of Ibrahim, as she searched for water for her son Ismail (Ishmael).

Mount Arafat: On the 9th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, pilgrims gather in the plain of Arafat, spending the day in prayer and contemplation. It is considered the most important day of Hajj.

Muzdalifah: After sunset, pilgrims move to Muzdalifah, where they spend the night and collect pebbles for the next ritual.

Stoning of the Devil: Pilgrims perform the symbolic stoning of the Devil by throwing pebbles at three pillars in Mina. This symbolizes the rejection of evil and temptation.

Animal Sacrifice: Pilgrims offer animal sacrifices, commemorating Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son and Allah's provision of a ram as a substitute. The meat is distributed to the needy.

Tawaf al-Ifadah: Pilgrims return to the Kaaba to perform another tawaf as a conclusion to the Hajj rituals.

Farewell Tawaf: Before leaving Mecca, pilgrims often perform a final tawaf, known as the farewell tawaf, to bid farewell to the Kaaba.

Hajj is a significant and spiritually fulfilling journey for Muslims, emphasizing unity, humility, and devotion to Allah. It serves as a time for reflection, repentance, and seeking forgiveness.
